Does avocado pit have health benefits?

El hueso del aguacate, ¿tiene beneficios para la salud?

In recent years, avocado consumption has notably increased in Spain, not only in food but also in cosmetic products. Both the avocado pit and the fruit itself have found a place in our daily lives due to their countless health benefits.

According to the World Avocado Organization (WAO), avocado consumption in Spain has increased by 20% compared to the previous year. But what benefits does avocado offer that have allowed it to penetrate so many Spanish households?

The emergence of healthy ‘brunches’ and guacamole in Spanish gastronomy has led to an unintentional surge in avocado consumption in our country. So much so that many soon discovered how to use it far beyond just food.

Avocado as an ally in your beauty routine

Aware of avocado's properties, at Maminat we have decided to create a product where this food is the real star: our solid avocado conditioner.

As indicated by the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), a very beneficial natural oil is extracted from the avocado seed for the scalp due to its regenerating, nourishing, and moisturizing properties.

In addition to being used for hair, avocado is also an ideal food for skin care, as it helps eliminate impurities and brightens the skin, being one of the main foods that prevent aging, as stated by the World Health Organization.

Is the avocado pit actually useful?

However, the avocado fruit itself is not the only part of this prized food that you can use in the world of cosmetics. If you enjoy eating avocados, you may have heard about the properties of its pit.

Although various public figures, through their social media, have claimed that the avocado pit improves cases of hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes, and inflammation, the truth is that there is no scientific study to prove it.

Not in smoothies nor in baked goods. Adding avocado pit to your diet offers no benefits. In fact, according to several studies, excessive consumption of avocado pit could be harmful to health.

In Spain, there are countless foods that offer antioxidant benefits, without the need to consume a food that does not guarantee it is truly healthy.

If you don't want to discard the avocado pit, remember that you can use it to grow more.

To do this, you just need to wash it well, place three or four toothpicks in a cross shape, and place it over a glass full of water in a well-lit spot for the root to grow. When the root is more than 10 centimeters long, transplant it to a regular pot.
