MAKEUP FOR EXERCISE, YES OR NO?

No. But as always, everything has an explanation that we will detail throughout this post. It is well known that, more and more every day, street trends are inundating our daily lives, and this includes training both in gyms and outdoors. For some, the trend is to apply makeup for exercise.

For many women, wearing makeup is a way to feel good about themselves and confident. Apparently, it is a way to show beauty because society has led us to believe that, although, as we always say, beauty consists of feeling well both inside and out. In fact, a good diet, as we previously told you, resting, and feeling emotionally at peace helps our skin look radiant.

But the truth is that applying makeup has become a ritual in the lives of almost all women and, increasingly, men. But, is it a good option to apply makeup for exercise? Do we know what happens to our skin if we train with makeup on?

Makeup and sweat

When we exercise, our body sweats. It all depends on the activity we are doing, but we always sweat a little. Sweat is a bodily cooling mechanism that maintains our body at an optimal temperature, and this is achieved by the evaporation of water through the pores of the skin.

When sweating, the pores of the skin dilate, and if we wear makeup, it will obstruct their natural exit, leading to bacteria, which facilitates the appearance of acne, irritation, and blackheads. Furthermore, with open pores, it is easier to absorb dirt from the air and spoil the complexion's color.

Often, if we have very oily, acne-prone skin, we think the best way to cover it up is with makeup, and we only aggravate the problem. If that's your case, what should your routine be?

  1. You should choose a cream suitable for your skin type and, if possible, one that does not contain any toxic substances.
  2. Cleanse your face with a cleanser that does not contain sulfates or synthetic fragrances... This will help prevent any type of inflammation and keep the skin from dehydrating.

However, even so, there are surely people who, after reading this post, still think they want to wear a little makeup to exercise. In fact, you only have to visit a gym to realize that many ignore what we are telling you. For this reason, we wanted to seek the opinion of a specialist, in this case, Ana García Malinis, who is a dermatologist at the San Jorge Hospital in Huesca. The doctor advises "to remove oil-based and greasy foundations" and believes that one should opt for foundations that do not contain silicones and that have mineral ingredients. "These are water-resistant and allow the skin to breathe more than others. And if you're outdoors, "always use a foundation with sunscreen," explains García Malinis.

Wearing makeup for exercise, almost better not to...

After the scientific explanation we have just given you, it is highly recommended that you do not use makeup for exercise, even though large companies insist on "selling" and convincing us that there is no risk to our skin.
