This is one of the most common fatty acids. Specifically, it can be found in a combined form in animal and vegetable fats. However, the one sold commercially is a mixture of glycerin with stearic acid.

Stearic acid has a wide variety of cosmetic properties. It acts as an emulsifier, meaning this ingredient helps the other ingredients mix properly. In addition, thanks to its surfactant properties, it can help maintain the mixture correctly. Its use is very common, especially in sunscreens, given its ability to emulsify their physical filters.
Moreover, this acid has moisturizing qualities and is a skin barrier repair agent.
