GOODBYE WASTE: OUT WITH UNNECESSARY BOXES

We are the "throwaway" generation, but you will have noticed that we don't use any boxes to package creams, virgin milk, eye contour creams... Some of you have asked us why we don't use these containers when other brands do. The reason is clear to us: Are these boxes necessary? Do you use them for anything afterwards? Our opinion is that they end up in our wastebaskets and are of no use. They don't protect the product excessively, and our goal is always to support sustainable development and generate the minimum amount of waste possible. And we are on the way to achieving this more and more, and for this, we are constantly considering some modifications to the way we do things, which you will discover.

We use a generic box filled with recycled paper to ensure your order arrives, even if you've purchased many different products. A box, by the way, that we've been told some of you use in your closets to organize underwear, store jewelry, screws...

There's something beyond recycling

You already know how important recycling is in our lives, but if we want to go beyond simple recycling, reducing waste is a good option to support environmentalism and avoid the large amount of trash each person produces. Did you know that on average, each Spaniard generates 500 kilograms of trash? From there, you might wonder where that waste goes, whether everything is truly recyclable or not... Because, unfortunately, this trash ends up polluting nature, our seas, and our rivers. In fact, this issue has become so significant that we have even coined a term to describe it: "basuraleza" (trash-nature).

We like to support responsible and conscious consumption and try to be as faithful as possible to our philosophy. In fact, we love "Zerowaste," a movement that seeks to banish trash forever with the trend of reducing waste production and feeding landfills.

How can you start producing less waste?

We have become the throwaway generation, and this is a very serious problem for the environment. We have the opportunity to make just a few small changes to help nature and improve our quality of life. If you start producing less waste, you not only contribute to improving the environment, but you will also feel much better about yourself. So here are some simple keys:

  1. Start refusing everything you don't need. It's important to reflect and think about what things you really need and what things don't add anything to your life. For example, you can use cloth bags instead of plastic bags, you can replace your cotton makeup removers with your washable makeup remover wipes... Nowadays, we have more and more options to avoid instant throwaway products...

In fact, recycling trash is fundamental, yet the latest data we have access to tells us that, although we are recycling more, little more than a quarter of our waste is recycled, and in fact, we are one of the countries that is at the bottom in that sense at a European level. Regarding reusing containers... it is true that some offer more possibilities than others, but, for example, the jars we use for Maminat creams, whether facial creams, body cream, or hand cream, you can reuse them for anything else. You can turn the jar of the facial cream into a small candle, use the body cream jar for salt or sugar, and even make the hand cream jar into a candy box! We will be sharing more ideas on how to reuse Maminat products in a future post. If any of you want to show us how you reuse them, we would love for you to send us an e-mail with a photo for others to see.

3. Buy less clothing. Do you really need it all? This could be an entire post, but did you know that it takes 10,000 liters of water to produce one pair of jeans? Often, pesticides are used to manufacture clothing... And yes, of course, we all like to wear something "new" occasionally, but if we apply consciousness, we'll realize how we endanger nature for our "little whims."

4. Customize and swap your clothes: A bag that used to be a pair of pants, a dress that's now short but used to be longer... It's another way to reuse clothes and make it seem like you're wearing something new. Also, I really enjoy having clothing swaps with my friends. Sometimes we get tired of certain clothes because we've gained a few pounds and they don't fit, or because they've been in the closet for too long... If you get together with your friends, you might be able to swap clothes that are almost, almost new.

5. Magazines and newspapers can be works of art: I remember since I was a child how we used to store newspapers to have enough sheets to paper the floor when we were going to paint the walls at home. And what if you use them for other things too? I love the idea from one of Maminat's clients. Her name is Nadia Montero, and look at the amazing collages she makes!

And so we could come up with endless proposals... The idea is for each individual to contribute their small grain of sand, and once certain practices are fully established, they can be transferred to the rest of society. There is nothing more beautiful than learning from each other, and if in this case it helps to generate less waste, then let's go for it!
